About Our Logo
The book series logo differs from the overall ASLH logo; it represents the Ankerwycke Yew, or the Tree of Liberty, at Runnymede where the Magna Carta was signed in June 1215. The Magna Carta (Great Charter) was signed by King John of England in order to restore peace with the nobles rebelling against his rule. Among other things, the Charter promised protection from unjust imprisonment and lingering trials. These protections would eventually form the basis of a number of English and American legal principles, such as habeas corpus, and ideals of personal liberty.
